Krista Gustafson, our President of SHRM at SJSU, is graduating this Fall. She is majoring in Business with a concentration in Human Resources Management and a minor in Science. Krista is interested in Human Resources because she wants to help others, assist in enforcing compliance with regulations for companies, and ensure that companies provide the best opportunities for their employees. SHRM has been a great way for Krista to build relationships and learn more about all the different aspects of Human Resource Management. In her free time, she enjoys watching sports, The Vampire Diaries, and crocheting.
Karina Vals, our Executive Vice President of SHRM at SJSU is a senior majoring in Business with a concentration in Human Resources. Karina joined SHRM in order to broaden her network in the HR field as well as connect with peers. Through SHRM, Karina started an internship with NetApp in the HR field, and competed in the national SHRM competition. In her free time, Karina likes to cook, spend time with friends and family, watch movies, and relax with a good glass of wine.
Greetings! Ritika Kumar, our Vice President of Operations, is a fourth year studying Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resource Management. Ritika decided to join SHRM because she wanted to find a way to connect with like-minded peers who were looking to network and build their skill set in the Human Resource field. SHRM has provided a platform for Ritika to hone in on her leadership and networking skills. In her free time, Ritika enjoys spending time with her family and friends, watching new TV shows, and baking!
Suzette Sandoval, our VP of Finance, is a fourth year majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources Management. Suzette is pursuing a career in Human Resources because she is passionate about helping others and believes HR does just that. SHRM has allowed Suzette to build the skills, networks, and mindsets to launch her career. In her free time, Suzette enjoys spending time with family and friends, exploring, and trying new food.
Mary Le, our Vice President of Membership, is a fourth year studying Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resource. Mary decided to join SHRM to network and develop her professional skills. SHRM has provided Mary the opportunity to go on company tours and network with HR professionals. In her leisure time, Mary enjoys cooking, spending time with her dog, and volunteering at the San Jose animal shelter.
Greetings from the VP of Mentorship of SHRM@SJSU - Danit BenMoshe! Danit is a Business Administration major and concentrating in Human Resource Management. She had decided to join SHRM@SJSU her freshmen year, Fall 2015, as a member in hopes to learning more about HR and networking with HR professionals. After interning in Israel as an HR, Danit decided to take one step further and join SHRM as an officer, VP of Mentorship. Since Fall 2015, she has developed her skills through various workshops such as Mock Interviews, Resume Blasts and attending company tours offered by SHRM. She hopes to gain a lot more from this organization now as a junior, such as career opportunities and meeting new professionals in the work force. During her free time, Danit loves to hang out with her family and friends. Danit is also Director of Council Administration on the Panhellenic Executive Board at SJSU. She loves hanging out with her sorority sisters!
Greetings from Océane Brouard, our VP of Careers! She is a fourth-year international student studying Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources Management. After her transfer from her 2 year-college in Seattle, she decided to meet people in her field by joining the Society for Human Resources Management. This experience as a SHRM@SJSU member helped her gain further knowledge and understanding about the Human Resources roles in a company. Since fall 2016, she has developed her skills through the Resume Blast and Interview workshops as well as expanding her networking with the various company tours offered by SHRM. During the 2017’s spring semester, Océane decided to grow as an HR professional by joining the Case Competition team. This incredible experience bolstered her capacity to work on a concrete case with a team of students; and through research, work experience and knowledge her team came to possible solutions. As an officer, she hopes to be able to give as much as she got from her previous year with SHRM as a member. With this position in SHRM, Océane aspires to meet people and share point of views, to strengthen her networking and communications skills, and to efficiently respond to the members’ needs. In her free time, she enjoys travelling to wherever she can go, to experiment with new baking ideas and to learn about others’ culture. Océane wishes you a fantastic new semester!
Sylvia Gomez, our VP of Events, is a third year pursuing a degree in Business Administration concentrating in human resource management. She became a SHRM member during fall of 2016 in hopes of gaining in depth information about roles in HR. Since joining, Sylvia has connected with people who share the same HR interests, given back to the community, participated in a resume workshop, and attended company tours to get insight on how different HR departments function. Sylvia had a positive experience as a member and decided to become an officer to be in a position of influence. Her goal is to encourage others to be involved and to take advantage of all the great opportunities SHRM offers. Sylvia is an adventure seeker who enjoys trying new things and visiting new places. In the summer of 2016 she gave skydiving a try, and she plans to visit a country she has never been to in the future.
Toni Jarin, also known as TJ, is our current VP of Events, is a transfer business major with concentration
in Human Resource Management. She joined SHRM in Spring 2017 in order to enhance and strengthen
professional relationships. She is working towards graduating Spring 2018, gaining a PHR and SHRM-CP,
working in the tech industry, and then going to Santa Clara University to get an MBA. In her spare time,
TJ likes to watch ESPN, volunteer, hike, and spend time with friends and family. In addition to SHRM, TJ
is working towards joining Delta Sigma Pi and Women in Business.
Rick Partridge is an accomplished senior HR leader with demonstrated success in increasingly responsible roles across all areas of human resources. His career spanned 25 years in a wide variety of HR roles at IBM, Georgia-Pacific, BEA Systems, and Second Harvest Food Bank. He has taught in the HRM concentration since Fall, 2006, and serves as a faculty advisor to the SHRM@SJSU student club. Additionally, he provides a variety of career services to students. He has a BS from Vanderbilt University and M. Ed. and Ed. S (one-year post Masters) degrees from the University of Florida. He holds certifications in Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Professional Qualifying Program, Corporate Coach University, and Achieve Global Leadership Skills Training
