What Is A Mentor Program
SHRM @ SJSU Mentor Program offers a structured setting that allows
students to develop beneficial one-on-one relationships with HR professionals.
Acting as a guide to the professional world, mentors have the opportunity
to encourage and advise students by sharing their own experiences and knowledge
of the HR profession.

Mentor Program Structure
The program is designed to last six weeks. Once you have elected
to participate in the program and you have fulfilled the eligibility
requirements, you will be matched with a mentor.
During those six weeks, you and your mentor can participate in activities such as...
- Lunch with Mentor
- Attend company staff meeting
- Meet other HR professionals
- Observe the development of a special project such as a training program or curriculum, wellness program, or health fair.
- Observe a day of recruiting.
- And much more!
Student Eligibilty
To become eligible to participate in the SHRM @ SJSU Mentor Program, you will need to...
- Be a current part time or full time student as SJSU
- Complete the Mentor Program Application
- Actively participate in and support SHRM @ SJSU student chapter events
- Be available for an interview
- Be available to attend the Mentor Meet & Greet
- Be committed to staying in contact with your mentor for at least 6 weeks
The Interview Process
Perspective students will be selected to attend an interview with Darlene Tran
(President, SHRM@SJSU)/ Tammy San (VP, SHRM@SJSU). This interview will help
SHRM @ SJSU determine the best fit per mentor and mentee.
Interviews will be on a rolling basis. Selected members will be contacted within 1 to 2 weeks with information on their status.
How to apply for mentorship:
- Fill out Mentorship Application.
- Submit Application: Email completed applications to Tammy San at vicepresident.shrmatsjsu@gmail.com, submit to any SHRM Officer, or drop off application to BT 650.
