The following (9) positions are available for Spring 2018:


  • President
    • Ensure SHRM@SJSU operates smoothly.
    • Plan and organize workshops and events.
    • Lead and coordinate officer meetings. 
    • Maintain and develop organizational culture, values and reputation within the university, executive team, and faculty and staff.
    • Work with VP of Finance to maintain funds and budget.
    • Arrange and organize the HRM department graduation ceremony.
    • Complete the Merit Award Workbook (as part of the Executive Board).  
    • Complete the Alcohol Awareness and Sexual Harassment seminar required during the Fall semester.  
    • Book classroom for meetings for the next semester. 
    • Experience as a previous SHRM@SJSU Officer is preferred. 


  • Executive Vice President
    • Acting as stand-in President if current President is unable to serve.  
    • Primary contact between NCHRA and the Chapter.   
    • Coordinate the Buddy Program.
    • Work with the President to identify potential workshops and events.
    • Organize the HRM Department Graduation Ceremony.
    • Complete the Merit Workbook (as part of the Executive Board).
    • Assist other officers in their duties as needed.   
    • Book classroom for meetings for the next semester. 
    • Experience as a previous SHRM@SJSU Officer is preferred.
  • Vice President of Finance
    • Document all income and expenses through a record-keeping system and providing receipts to individuals or organizations.  
    • Identify and implement fundraising opportunities.
    • Maintain SHRM@SJSU finances within a given budget.
    • Make payments and deposits into the A.S. account at least once every two weeks.
    • Coordinate with Vice President of Membership to follow up with membership dues.
    • Review and issue reimbursement of payment checks for approved expenses.
    • Coordinate with the President and other officers to determine monetary needs for the semester/year.
    • Complete and submit A.S. Funding Request(s).
    • Establish and manage relationships with sponsors.
    • Research additional grants of funds available to student groups other than A.S. & LCoB funding.  
    • Complete the Alcohol Awareness and Sexual Harassment seminar required during the Fall semester.  
    • Deposit donations to the Tower Foundation.


  • Vice President of Operations
    • Record meeting minutes and send officers a summary of the meeting.  
    • Create an attendance spreadsheet list for officer meetings and events.
    • Lead event set-up including the purchase and transportation of food, drinks, and other necessities.
    • Coordinate graduation ceremony stoles through a vendor and distribute to members.
    • Keep track of inventory in the storage room and replenish supplies when needed.   
    • Write brief descriptions about our workshops for the monthly newsletter and send to VP of Communications.
  • Vice President of Membership
    • Manage HR classroom announcements for rush week and throughout the semester.
    • Organize rush recruitment table scheduling.  
    • Responsible for recruiting new members.  
    • Design and update membership packages and applications.
    • Collaborate with VP of Communications to create recruitment brochures and flyers.
    • Maintain accurate and up to date records of past, current, and prospective member information.
    • Follow up with students regarding incomplete application forms.
    • Coordinate with the VP of Finance in processing and submitting membership dues.
    • Check the SHRM Mailbox at least once a week during and after rush week.
    • Update SHRM@SJSU mailing list every other day for the first two weeks of operation.
    • Gather membership sign-in sheet and record member’s accrued points as part of the point system.


  • Vice President of Careers
    • Organize all workshops including but not limited to the Resume Blast and Mock Interview.
    • Responsible for communicating new job, internship and scholarship opportunities from professors, companies, and professional organizations to members.
    • Contact and make arrangements for guests including speakers and HR professionals through email.
    • Provide a confirmation email with date, time, topic of event, directions to campus, and e-permit for parking.  
    • Coordinate company tours for SHRM@SJSU members in order for members to have the opportunity to see what career opportunities exist and what a typical working day looks like.
    • Develop relationships with professionals and companies in order to expose our members to a large group of professionals and organizations.
    • Write brief descriptions of company tours for the monthly newsletter and send to VP of Communications.
  • Vice President of Communications
    • Communicate workshops, events and other information to members via email, flyers, and social media.
    • Create, print, and distribute flyers for all events at least 2 weeks prior to the event.  
    • Update the shrmatsjsu.org events page as needed.  
    • Post flyers in BBC classrooms and SHRM@SJSU display case.
    • Update and maintain the SHRM@SJSU display case in the BBC.
    • Create a monthly newsletter to share with members about past and upcoming events.
    • Reach out to officers for short descriptions of events that they are in charge of for the newsletter and send to VP of Operations when completed to be posted on the SHRM@SJSU website.
    • Engage members frequently through social media with event reminders and relevant HR content
    • Create brochures and certificates for SHRM@SJSU’s HR Graduation every Spring semester.


  • Vice President of Events
    • Schedule at least one social event each semester and coordinate with other LCoB organizations to develop additional social event opportunities.
    • Collaborate with the Vice President of Communications to create and distribute flyers for all social events and schedule email reminders to send out to officers and members.  
    • Organize and schedule at least 2 volunteering events for members to participate in each semester.  
    • Plan social and professional events, which can involve casual networking mixers with other student organizations.  
    • Attend and help organize the Business Olympics during Spring semester and represent the SHRM@SJSU organization at Business Olympics meetings.
    • Write brief descriptions of volunteering events and socials for the monthly newsletter and send to VP of Communications.
  • Vice President of Mentorship
    • Act as liaison and coordinate the mentorship program with the NCHRA.
    • Match mentors to their respective mentees based on shared interests and career goals.  
    • Host at least 1 in-person event for mentors and mentees to get together.
    • Responsible for recruiting all mentors and mentees to the program.   
    • Recruit qualified mentors for the program.
    • Meet and communicate with mentors and mentees on a regular basis to make sure program objectives are met.
    • Update and distribute mentorship application to members.
    • Write brief descriptions of any Mentorship Program events for the monthly newsletter and send to VP of Communications.
