Mentor Program Guidelines


Purpose of SHRM at SJSU’s Mentor Program is to Provide Opportunities for Students to:

  • Explore the world of work through interaction with professionals in various facets of HR
  • Gain an experienced HR practitioner's perspective on applying text-book concepts to real-life situations
  • Understand the corporate environment, policies and procedures
  • Identify long-term professional development needs
  • Benefit from the value of networking
  • Develop meaningful professional relationships

Mentor Eligibility and Requirements:

  • At least five years of experience in an HR related field
  • Ability to meet with your mentee at least twice during the program duration
  • Ability to interact with your mentee via phone or email once a week
  • Mentor must make initial contact with mentee within one week of assignment

Mentee Eligibility and Requirements:

  • Be a member of SHRM for 1 semester NOT including the current semester
  • Have membership up to date  
  • Attach an updated resume with the application form
  • Submit the Mentorship Application by TBD

Program Duration:

The program is designed to last six weeks. During those six weeks, we recommend you and your mentee participate in at least two activities.
